There’s a great interview from February 2000 that gives some more insight into Philip Gourevitch’s views. I want to be clear that my interest in him is that he brings an informed, and somewhat level-headed (at least it seems so) judgment to his views on the Rwandan genocide, and African genocide in general. I have some questions for him that I hope I’ll be able to get answered (once I get his contact information). One related piece (from May 2003) that I found of interest is on the relationship between Iraq and the Congo as a test of U.N. “vitality.” In it Gourevitch suggests the problem may be that there is no price to pay for world powers ignoring African mass murder and genocide - but on the Iraqi side there is, of course, oil.
