Aging in DuPage - For Seniors, Getting There Is Half the Battle

With the senior population in DuPage increasing at a greater clip than anywhere else in Chicagoland, county government has to work harder to address the major transportation problems that make non-car travel a huge problem. Naperville and Lisle township have taken this step by improving access in DuPage for seniors (with 24 hour service […]

The Costs of Privatization in the Military

Many people consider privatization of government an unqualified good, and they are amply represented in the Bush Administration and among his relatives. Despite evidence that privatization doesn’t work in education (sorry, subscribers only), and a number of other areas, some conservatives beat the privatization drum indiscriminately. As David Moberg writes in the education […]

Great Freedman Fundraiser Tonight

Tonight over forty people attended Rob Freedman’s fundraiser at Skuddlebutt’s in Downers Grove. The candidate, and Tinker Harvey, who was honored tonight were both well received. Rob discussed the need to improve customer service in the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, update its technology and better educate the public about […]

DuPage Soldiers Bring the Iraq War Home

Even as the DuPage community mourns the death and injuries sustained by American soldiers in Iraq, the war is increasingly being brought home to us. Local soldiers are suffering. We may have seen them or their families on the Riverwalk, met them in Adams Park, or ate at Anyway’s or Clara’s with them. […]

Ernst and Young Get Slapped, But Not Too Hard

The New York Times has an article about Ernst and Young getting a $1.7 million fine and a six month suspension of getting new business among other sanctions, which sounds pretty big at first, until you learn that the firm declined to appeal the decision. That suggests that it was ‘acceptable’ - and probably […]

Iraq as Vietnam Gaining Currency

Paul Krugman’s Op Ed today in the New York Times (free registration required) draws out a number of scary analogies between Vietnam and Iraq. It’s worth reading more for the excellent synthesis of what’s been said in the news, by people like Ted Kennedy and by other senators, then for anything innovative. The […]

DuPage Democrats Have Potential To Win

Turnout in the primaries, meetings that have drawn newcomers and a large crop of candidates challenging the Republican establishment give Democrats more hope than they’ve had for a while in DuPage - but it will still take some serious work. DuPage has been under one-party rule for so long that there is no shortage […]

Tribune Covers DuPage Democratic Convention

While it’s only a brief article, you can read about the DuPage Democratic Convention in the Chicago Tribune (with free registration).

Lisle Township Officer Election

Tonight the Lisle Township Regular Democratic Organization voted for its officers. Guy Maras was re-elected Chair, along with the re-election of Pat Pope as Secretary and Jeff Knezovich as Treasurer. Tony Fuscone, who I worked with in DuPage for Dean, was elected the new 1st Vice Chair.

Iraq War - A Question In Need Of An Answer

I was discussing the Iraq War situation yesterday with a politically astute person I’ll call Jim that I had just met, and he said something that initially startled me. Jim said a friend, who had been to Jim’s left during Vietnam (Jim might not have pulled out in that case at the time), was […]
