Barack Obama, who is leading by quite a bit in polls over Jack Ryan, would normally be considered foolish to debate his opponent. It would be assumed that Obama has the most to lose. That Obama is proposing six debates, including four outside the Chicago market that many treat as his stronghold, suggests how profoundly out of step the Obama camp believes Ryan’s political views are for Illinois, and how poorly Ryan’s campaign in the state appears to be doing.
If Ryan needs a warning sign, this is it.
