DuPage GOP Damage Control

After years of near total control in DuPage County, the DuPage Republicans are worried, according to the Naperville Sun. Many voters received a flier showing a light switch from the DuPage GOP asking them “Did you switch?” in the primaries. They should be worried. Years of not responding to the needs of average voters, years of being as inaccessible as possible and years of wasting tax dollars have started to catch up with them. They are starting reforms, voters will have to judge if it is too little too late.

On Wednesday the Sun reported County Board member Brien Sheahan, R-Elmhurst suggested changes to improve the accountability and the distribution of public information by the DuPage County Board. He said “providing these forms online can be done overnight,” begging the question why groups in his home town like Elmhurst-based Citizen Advocacy Center have had to sue for basic information, and continue to have to sue. Why do members of the Board, many who have served for years, not acted against the tax-wasting DuPage Airport that is a line item on our property tax bills? Or what about the tax-wasting, empty Technology Park? Asking for input is a great start, but action requires more than mailing a picture of a light switch. Action requires a real switch - and that’s what DuPage Democrats offer this election.
