Jack Ryan: Late to the Party

The Chicago Sun Times story on Jack Ryan today starts: “Republican leaders are cringing over the seamy sexual allegations, raising questions about his honesty and wondering if they can get him off the ticket in November.”

While there are problems with strong political parties, one problem with weak ones is that they can’t perform the screening process that makes them valuable. Ryan, who did not come up through the ranks and is running his first political campaign, owes the GOP “Jack” - and that’s what they’ve gotten. Divorced from party politics, like Democrat Blair Hull, the Republicans are seeing that it may be better to vet novice candidates in the primaries, instead of the general election.
