Political Wire caught a Boston Globe story about John Kerry’s crowds being bigger than George Bush’s, in part because they aren’t “ticketed” events. Atrios also comments on Kerry’s openness compared to Bush, calling the openness “American.”
Why should Bush engage the other side? Maybe the sum of Republicans plus Independents and Democrats is larger than the sum of Republicans alone? It could be a simple math problem - another example of counting. The things you learn in elections, like math being important and all but, like they say, being president is job one.
