Salon magazine is reporting that comedian Joe Piscopo may run as an independent to be the replacement for scandal plagued outgoing Governor James McGreevey. This wouldn’t be the first time Piscopo was considered. Democrats talked about writing Joe in to replace U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli in 2002.
Piscopo actually does have a little government and political experience:
“‘We stay politically active,’ Piscopo says of he and his wife’s involvement in government. ‘The last governor of our state put me on the Commission to Deter Criminal Activity.’”
Piscopo also is chairman of the Positive Impact Foundation, which creates positive media for at-risk youth in New Jersey.
Word is the people at Republican House Minority Leader Tom Cross’ blog are intrigued and considering launching a site to raise awareness for Piscopo, who they feel might make an excellent carpet bag candidate for governor or senator of Illinois. One Cross staffer said “Piscopo’s the man! After Keyes we’re all going to need a drink and then get serious about our comedy.” Said another “After our drink we should go www.GetPiscopoADraft.com - it could be even more refreshing than DraftDitka.com.” As of 12:00 AM Friday, August 20th the newly named url was still available.
