Speaking to a full house of over 100 people tonight, Vietnam veteran Jim Wasser, Senator John Kerry’s crewmate in the war, spoke at a meeting of the DuPage County Democrats in their campaign office. The receptive crowd gave Wasser of Kankakee, Illinois multiple standing ovations as he mixed “straight talk” about his experience with Kerry in Vietnam with frequent plugs to elect Kerry the next president of the United States. While Wasser said he had respect for all veterans no matter what their politics, or when or where they served, and that he did not believe in bad mouthing a fellow vet, he did say that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) were lying about Kerry’s record. He spent a lot of time dealing in specifics, explaining SBVT charges and Kerry’s record. Wasser briefly mentioned other campaign issues including education, veteran benefits, unions, and jobs. At one point he urged the crowd to use a “weapon of mass instruction” - getting people to vote for John Kerry.
