For some reason this joke in today’s New York Times made me laugh:
“I hear the war for Iraq has cost us $200 billion,” said Matt Bellace, caught at Caroline’s on Broadway. “Did anyone think of just buying Iraq?”
It’s dark humor with a core of truth.
On reflection, I guess Colin Powell suggested something like this, when he told Bush in August 2002, “You break it, you bought it.” Unfortunately it would be more accurate to say the American people “bought it” when Bush “broke it.”
