Here’s the letter I sent to the editors of various local newspapers tonight via the Kerry-Edwards website:
Dear Editor,
President George Bush has had an unenviable task of late - he’s had to defend his record against someone who disagrees with it. Until the debates with John Kerry and John Edwards, Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney “preached to the converted” as they barnstormed America playing only to crowds literally certified to agree with them. While critics were not permitted in, protesters were often kept far beyond the president and vice president’s sight. The televised debates brought a necessary reality check. All is not well in America today.
From tax policy to the Taliban. From Iraq to income. From unemployment to underfunded education. Pick your issues. All is not well in America today.
Bush and Cheney were unable to defend their record because their record speaks for itself. They have had their four years. Now it is time to give Kerry and Edwards theirs.
