As part of my Open Government platform I write:
“I will, through visits to community groups, regular press releases, and a regularly updated website, strive to keep DuPage voters and taxpayers better informed about their government, because only an informed public can make government responsive to its needs.”
Part of my attempt to reach residents will involve office hours at least twice a month in a public place (like a coffee shop). I will announce them ahead of time to the press, as well as post them on my website. I will rotate locations and to some extent times (there will be some evening hours) so that more of my constituents have a chance to meet me and share their thoughts and concerns.
Much has been made of my relatively “high-tech” approach to communication with DuPage residents - but to focus on that is a mistake. The point of communication is to reach people, and connect with them. The way you communicate with lots of people, if you’re serious, is every way possible, so that you reach every person you can. I’m serious about getting people involved in the process and gaining their input, so if the way you want to reach your County Board member is in your neighborhood coffee shop, on the web, through email, through the phone, or any other way, then please vote for me November 2. Isn’t it time government “of the people, by the people and for the people” started to listen to the people, and get to know them? I look forward to speaking with you soon!
