I’ve said a lot of good things about Tom Cross’s political touch - so one of the things I’d love to hear on his blog is who his favorites are for the new IL GOP Chair that will replace Judy Baar Topinka.
After the RNC convention, Cross had this to say about Andy “i’m lovin’ it” McKenna, IMA president and CEO too Greg Baise and state Rep. Angelo “Please Don’t ‘Skip’” Saviano of the 77th district, “I’m open to any of those names.”
House Minority Leader Cross picked up a couple seats this election for the GOP - it will be interesting to see how far his political capital goes. Whoever his pick is, it will likely be someone considered moderate - something a lot of Tom’s colleagues will no doubt agree with looking at the future. My guess is Keyes’ failure overwhelms his follower’s passionate pleas for a hard right winger, when the chips are down, because most of the GOP probably view winning to enact their policies as much more important than martyrdom. You can bet GOP business backers do.
Makes Me Ralph cites a Southern Illinoisan article saying the same group that picked Keyes for senate will be picking the next GOP state chair - with Andy McKenna in the lead now. Some of those that picked Keyes later regretted it - and some didn’t. My pick (tongue firmly in cheek)? I know it goes against tradition to pick two, but McKenna and Oberweis would blend low end and high end together in the perfect Happy Meal. Whoever it is, it will be interesting.
