From today’s Naperville Sun:
“Boards and commissions
The issue: On Tuesday, the council considered a proposal that would require [Mayor George] Pradel to share all resumes for the Plan Commission and Transportation Advisory Board and allow council members to vote on each nominee instead of several in one package. But the motion failed by a 4-4 vote, with councilmen [Doug] Krause, Jim Boyajian and Mary Ellingson and Mayor George Pradel against.”
While there may be more to it, on the face of it I don’t see any reason why Naperville’s mayor should not share all the resumes for the Plan Commission and the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB). Permitting individual votes on board members does alter the power structure considerably, but I’m not sure I’m against that either - the boards help inform all members of the council, not just the mayor - why shouldn’t the council vote each proposed board member up or down?
