Illinois malpractice insurers are out for a profit like any other business - and will lobby for favorable conditions like any other business too. But just because they’re trying to maximize their profits, doesn’t mean they should be enabled by the Illinois Republican Party. So when Republican state senator Kirk Dillard, state senator David Luechtefeld and company are out there talking about Democrats playing games with malpractice insurance caps - remember the GOP is playing games with medical malpractice. The Republicans want to add insulting caps to medical injuries, while most Democrats reject caps for pain and suffering. (Thanks for the source, MakesMeRalph.)
Medical malpractice reform should be about making things work for doctors and patients. Reform should not be about increasing insurance company profits at the expense of trial lawyers - that’s just a game where people who are already hurt get hurt again. We can do better than that in Illinois.
