Elburn’s Smart Growth Discussed In Today’s Daily Herald

I first became aware of Elburn, Illinois’ interest in smart, sustainable growth when I somehow happened upon the mayor of Elburn’s blog three months ago. I don’t know diddley about Elburn politics (or much about the Mayor, Dr. James L. Willey (a dentist)) but I do respect the mayor’s blog and what he discusses about smart growth. The Daily Herald article mentions the new Metra station Elburn will have later this year that is being planned using a transit oriented development perspective. It also discusses Elburn’s work with the Campaign for Sensible Growth and the Urban Land Institute to plan their community development (you can read more about the Elburn report here).

Someday I have to make a point of meeting Mayor Willey - his approach to planning and open communication can teach a lot of communities what to do to set the stage for smart community development.
