John E. Glennon, The DuPage Contract Double-Dipper, Indicted For Unhealthy Financial Relationship With Medical School

The Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune are reporting that former DuPage lobbyist, GOP fundraiser and political operative John E. Glennon, the man who thinks the “D” in DuPage stands for “double,” has been indicted in the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School scandal involving Jacob Kiferbaum and Stuart Levine. Glennon is accused of using a company he ran to funnel $700,000 in kickbacks from Kiferbaum’s padded construction contract to Levine. Both Kiferbaum and Levine served on the university’s board and Levine also served as vice-chair on the scandal-plagued Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board that regulates hospital expansion in the state.

Last I heard DuPage Auditor Jim Raisins hadn’t produced the missing county financial documents that might show additional financial improprieties by Glennon in DuPage contracts. The documents, requested by the Sun-Times in a freedom of information act request, could show how much beyond the $105,000 of hidden double-paying Glennon got from the county. One source has suggested the delay in publicizing the documents could reflect the ongoing investigation by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald into the scandal. Glennon’s friendship and patronage of DuPage County Board Chair Robert Schillerstrom may have been one of the main reasons why Schillerstrom didn’t run for governor this time around. Depending on what else Patrick Fitzgerald comes up with, Schillerstrom, who has defended Glennon’s double-payments for work in DuPage and is accused of forcing DuPage Airport officials to hire Glennon for unnecessary work, could suffer real damage.
