I’ve yet to meet John Laesch, although we’ve exchanged emails a few times about an upcoming forum I hope to have with him and fellow Democratic candidate for the 14th Congressional District Ruben Zamora. I can say, however, that Democrats are pretty impressed with John, including one from DuPage I spoke with a few weeks ago who had seen Laesch in person. John needs more money, and knows it. We’ll see how much he can raise.
To say it’s an uphill battle fighting against the incumbent House Speaker is an understatement - but given how things are going, and that Dennis Hastert’s been dutifully backing the (disastrous) GOP national party-line, I would say it’s possible, if improbable. Republicans may have criticized Hillary Clinton saying “it takes a village” - emphasizing the importance of family - but now that hurricane Katrina has displaced tens of thousands of families and taken a bunch of villages, towns and cities, showing the inability of Republican national government to govern when people need competent government most, voters are looking for an alternative. John Laesch may provide it in the 14th Congressional District.
