[Hi Mom!]
I appreciate Eric thinking of me. Now what you came for….
MOST SIGNIFICANT STORY OF THE MONTH
Rod Blagojevich’s All Kids healthcare proposal to cover all Illinois children.
WINNER OF THE MONTH
Chicago White Sox (with an honorable mention to Rebecca Adeline Klau and family). One took almost ninety years, the other almost 9 months - in both cases we’re talking about a tremendous achievement.
LOSER OF THE MONTH
Harriet Miers - is anyone else close? [Seems like no link would be necessary - but I’ll link to her “blog” anyway]
MOST UNDER-REPORTED STORY
The Bush Administration buried a pre-2004 election Commerce Department report about overseas outsourcing of IT service jobs and high-tech industries - and then provided a bogus report prepared by political hacks. Over 200,000 Illinois residents depend on IT and high-tech companies for high-paying jobs - if we don’t know what the economic trends are, we can’t respond to them - and we can lose high quality jobs.
MOST OVER REPORTED STORY TO WATCH IN THE UPCOMING MONTH
U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and the Plame case, where in the absence of real information it has been analyzed to death anyway. The local angle is how does whatever happens with the Plame case (and Rove and Libby) affect his credibility/work on upcoming cases (indicted or to be indicted) with the Blagojevich, Daley and Schillerstrom Administrations. We assume that he pretty much knows where the case of former Governor George Ryan is headed.
