Genocide In Darfur - An Update

I haven’t written about Darfur, Sudan in quite a while. A recent commentary suggests the genocide in Darfur is getting worse, not better. The unfortunate reality of the Bush Administration’s loss of political strength due to scandal and failure is that things aren’t likely to get much better through their efforts - genocide is Sudan just isn’t a top priority for an American Administration fighting for its political life. Of course, with the exception of the North-South Sudanese conflict that had a Christian constituency in this country, because of Christian persecution, the Bush Administration’s response has been pretty muted. I’ll have more thoughts on this in the future - but for today you can contact your congressional representatives and tell them it still matters to you. The Quaker group Friends Committee on National Legislation did that recently, and have good talking points and ways to contact Congress on their website.
