Citizen Action Illinois Endorses In Congressional 6th, State Senate 39th and Metro Water Commission

Citizen Action Illinois sent out a press release today with primary election endorsements it made on Saturday. The organization is the largest consumer watchdog group in Illinois, and helps set a progressive agenda in state and national politics. I’ve listed all their endorsements below - but here are a few readers of my blog may be interested in seeing.

DuPage

In the Illinois 6th Congressional Race Tammy Duckworth got the nod over Christine Cegelis and Lindy Scott. Ryan Patrick Canney, Organizing Director of Citizen Action/Illinois described the race as a “tough” one, but said

“Tammy Duckworth gives progressives in the 6th the best opportunity to send an elected official to Washington with a commitment to universal healthcare, workers rights, and responsible foreign policy. Our diverse coalition has decades of experience in supporting progressive candidates like the late Senator Paul Simon, Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama, Rep. Lane Evans, and Rep. Jan Schakowsky. We believe that Tammy Duckworth will add another leader in Washington to help in the fight for social, racial, and economic justice.”

On the state level, Citizen Action/Illinois gave a ringing endorsement of State Senator Don Harmon, who Canney calls “a leader on issues important to the progressive community - healthcare, prescription drugs, women’s health, civil rights, and the environment. He is a key legislative ally of Citizen Action in Springfield, and he shares our values.”

Greater Chicagoland

Citizen Action/Illinois endorsed three Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioners, Terrance J. O’Brien, Debra Shore and Barrett Pederson. Ryan Canney said,

“All three candidates are committed to pursuing sound environmental policies if elected to this post. Deb Shore would add a diverse and important voice as the first openly lesbian elected official at the county level and the only woman on the Water Reclamation District Board. These candidates would ensure that fresh and clean water will be available to future generations in Cook County.”

Debra Shore called the endorsement “extremely important” saying, “it lends credence and legitimacy to this already terrific campaign.”
