Democracy for America is the national progressive grassroots movement inspired by Howard Dean’s presidential campaign. It supports socially progressive, fiscally conservative candidates at all government levels. DFA itself (headquartered in Burlington, Vermont) is a Federal PAC, but the 400+ local Democracy for America groups nationwide are ad hoc, volunteer-organized, independent and autonomous. The Oak Park Democracy for America (DFA) group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7 PM at the Buzz Cafe in Oak Park, 905 S. Harrison. There is also a statewide coalition group, Democracy for Illinois, which seeks to coordinate the activities of DFA groups across the state.
