The Economy And The Immigration Distraction

[Editor Note: Too tired to proof this as well as I should - probably will need some minor tweaking tomorrow]
Republican Jim Oberweis hoped to ride a wave of anti-immigration sentiment to higher office the last four years (pick an office, U.S. Senate or Governor). That he failed in the GOP primaries hopefully says […]

Go out on weekend Dem dates with progressives - and become a part of the family.

Democratic Unity In DuPage Part 2 - On The Issues

For many this may be a ‘no-brainer’ but I think it good to start things off by assuming little. What’s the case for supporting a Democratic Congressional Candidate that wasn’t your choice in the primary?
First, the basics. Any of the three Democratic candidates, Tammy Duckworth in the 6th, Joe Shannon in the 13th […]

Democratic Unity In DuPage Part 1 - Starting With Breakfast…

Yesterday I had breakfast at Drury Lane Banquets. Normally my breakfast habits don’t merit discussion, but this was a unity breakfast for DuPage Democrats - and we had something to talk about.
Perhaps there have been DuPage unity breakfasts before - I don’t remember - and they likely were not very memorable. Unity in […]

Democrat Joseph Shannon Wins In Illinois Congressional 13th

Joseph Shannon showed organizational strength in beating Bill Reedy in the 13th Congressional Democratic Primary. Using direct mail, robo-calling and, as was evidenced tonight from the many supporters he pointed out for working precincts and train stations, lots of volunteer power, Shannon was able get out the vote of supporters.
The Chicago Tribune reports with […]

With No News Tonight In The IL-06, The Media Take Down Their Mikes

I tried to cover a lot tonight for the 6th and 13th congressional races - but didn’t get to either the Duckworth or Reedy campaigns. This is a picture of the podium/banner in the Holiday Inn for the Christine Cegelis campaign soon after I got there (with camera crews taking down their […]

IL-06 Congressional Democratic Race Wrap Up - First Impressions

According to the Chicago Tribune, with 89.7% of precincts reporting, and the count ended for tonight, here are the Illinois 6th Congressional Results:
Tammy Duckworth has 12,603 votes (43.17%)
Christine Cegelis has 11,947 votes (40.92%)
Lindy Scott has 4,644 votes (15.91%)
While I’ll need to think about the race more, here are my first impressions.
1. In two important respects […]

DuPage Area Congressional Candidate Election Night Parties

I know this is pretty late - but if you were wondering where (or better yet have a chance to go) here they are:
6th Congressional Democratic Candidates
Christine Cegelis will be at the Holiday Inn, 1250 Roosevelt Rd., Glen Ellyn (east of I-355 and west of S. Finley Rd.) as of 7:30 PM.
Tammy Duckworth will be […]

The Feingold Difference

I have to admit I did not immediately jump on board with Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold’s resolution to censure President George W. Bush for illegal domestic wiretapping. It was, for me, not the question of principle, where I agreed, but rather a question of tactics. What would the effect of a censure resolution […]
