Ruth Najacht Pushing For Removing Gun Range From List Of Possible DuPage Forrest Preserve Activities

Today’s Daily Herald reports that Ruth Najacht continues to press the DuPage County Forest Preserve District to eliminate gun ranges from the list of possible activities. The issue has been around since July 2003, when Commissioner Joe Cantore, (R-Oakbrook Terrace) suggested having a gun range - and Ruth has been fighting it. In October 2004 the Forest Preserve District Commissioners unanimously voted against putting a shooting range in any of the forest preserves - a vote that subsequently has been used to say there will be no gun ranges - but they have not yet removed it as an official possibility.

According to the Daily Herald,

“Commissioner Joseph Cantore of Oakbrook Terrace argued that de-listing shooting ranges was a pointless action because future boards could overturn that decision.

[But] Commissioner Gwen Henry of Wheaton [current Republican candidate for County Treasurer]…took Najacht’s side, saying her concern was a legitimate one and that she remembered being told the de-listing matter would come to a vote.”

Far from coming to a simple conclusion, District President Dewey Pierotti told staff to revisit the issue with the board soon. My bet is Ruth Najacht will be there, waiting for her simple demand to be met. The constant stonewalling by the board suggests Ruth’s right to continue pursuing it.
