In a repeat of reactions to DuPage County Board Chair Robert Schillerstrom’s boss politics, the Daily Herald reports today that “a group of Milton Township precinct committeemen” are saying that they have the power to decide in a convention who will replace recently deceased board member John Noel for DuPage County Board District 4]. The Herald points out that the precinct captains seem to “have state law on their side.” The newspaper was unable to get a response from Schillerstrom, who asserted last week that a three-member commission of GOP officials he named would make the decision.
Whoever gets picked after the GOP infighting will face Democrat and Air Force veteran Richard L. Dunn, an active realtor and a municipal planning consultant, who served 14 years as Director of the Glen Ellyn Planning and Development Department before retiring in 2004. Rich’s longstanding ties to the community, strong background and innovative ideas position him well for the fall campaign. Dunn combines a pro-business perspective such as reducing county inspections of businesses that consistently surpass standards (backed up with strong compliance measures), with pro-property owner and resident measures like reducing property taxes and expanding “grandfathered” regulations to protect home owners. His county budget cutting plans include reducing the pay of county board members, increasing the efficiency of county workers through improved training and expanding pay-to-use county services. Along with his strong positions on the environment and government transparency, Rich Dunn offers voters a real choice for County Board District 4 in November.
