DuPage County Board Candidate Rich Dunn Criticizes County Board Salary Increases

You can read Rich Dunn’s position on DuPage County Board salary increases here.

Rich points out that DuPage County Board members work a part-time job that now will earn over $50,000 a year - and that this money could be better used elsewhere. Rich proposes slashing county board member salaries by about 40%, saying,

“As a candidate for the County Board I am proposing the annual salary be reduced to $30,000. The County Board should lead by example and this reduction could lead to implement procedures that will lower other costs to taxpayers in the future.

I applaud the minority of Board members who voted against the increase - but we need more Board members willing to speak and act on behalf of our citizens.”

Vote for Rich Dunn and you’ll get the fiscally responsible leadership DuPage needs. Volunteer, donate and support Rich’s campaign - make a good investment in our future.

I’m glad Rich Dunn agrees with the minority who are fiscally responsible. Does anyone know how many current board members actually voted against the salary increase?

    Hi Mario,

I have to apologize for the delayed response - I lost a lot of comments to spam filtering before I found the problem and fixed my email filter.

Here are the votes I know of on the approved salary increase (pdf file) - look for the listing FI-0082-06 (the text of the resolution is here). It appears that the vote was not done in public. The following votes are based on coverage by the Daily Herald and Naperville Sun of May 24, 2006:

Nine Approving the Salary Increase including
Kyle Gilgis (Downers Grove Dist 3)
    Robert Heap (Naperville Dist 5)

Eight Opposed the Salary Increase including

    Brien Sheahan (Elmhurst Dist 2)
    Grant Eckoff (Wheaton Dist 4)
    Debra Olson (Wheaton Dist 4)
    Robert Schroeder (Naperville Dist 5)

    Not Voting

Robert Schillerstrom (Naperville Dist 5) - conveniently he was out of town for the vote.
