From a story in yesterday’s Indianapolis Star, “Senators’ spouses share wealth,” discussing the wealth of various Democratic contenders for president in 2008:
“[Evan] Bayh also has the title of author, although he hasn’t earned as much for his efforts. Since his memoir was published in 2003, Bayh has reported earning $3,805 for “Evan Bayh: From Father to Son. A Private Life in the Public Eye.”
[Hillary] Clinton has earned nearly $9.5 million from her 2003 memoir, ‘Living History.’”
Money is not everything - and a lack of personal wealth may even speak to high moral principles (notably the article says, “Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, who is single, reported the least amount of assets among the six Senate Democrats possibly eyeing 2008, and among the lowest in the entire Senate.”). But the difference here in royalties, and by proxy popularity and/or notoriety, is still is one heck of a comparison.
