Today’s Daily Herald covers DuPage County Board Democratic Candidate Rich Dunn telling voters why he is ‘right on the issues’ and prepared to defeat the recently defeated (in the primary) and then appointed (to fill a vacancy) Republican Grant Eckhoff for County Board District 4.
From the Daily Herald:
“‘When the Republicans voted for a tax increase in November 2005, I think that was a mistake,’ Dunn said. ‘When they gave themselves salary increases - as opposed to salary decreases - that was a mistake.’”
Dunn recently proposed that DuPage County Board members set a budget cutting example by cutting their salaries by about 40% from almost $49,000 to $30,000. He believes we need to cut taxes - not raise them. The salary increases the county board recently approved have been divisive, especially since one retiring member of the DuPage County Board has alleged that some board members “do not pull their own weight.”

That’s outrageous. Looks like Rich Dunn can lead the charge against this questionable practice. Perhaps the money saved can be used toward county programs deserving of higher priorities for the good citizens of Dupage.
