One is a married lawyer with five children who says he has “a good job and a good life” and is running “not to get a job - but to do a job.” One is a married Iraqi War veteran with extensive public health experience who seeks “to provide access to affordable health care to those who need it.” The third is a Navy intelligence veteran who says that while American soldiers know “that we may be required to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country” our government should only send our troops “to war as a last resort.”
Three different backgrounds and three different DuPage congressional districts (the 13th, 6th and 14th) - but all three of these Democratic congressional candidates, Joe Shannon, Tammy Duckworth and John Laesch are against wasteful congressional earmarking that buries costly special interest projects in the federal budget without allowing congress to vote directly on them. These Democrats are against earmarks like the two Alaska “bridges to nowhere” in legislation two of their opponents passed that will cost taxpayers $423 million. There aren’t many major building projects that unite pro-business chambers of congress with environmental groups against the project - but both are against one of these bridges - and the other bridge got the “Golden Fleece Award” from Taxpayers for Common Sense. It’s your money, but it’s some Alaska Senator’s pointless bridges.
When President George W. Bush came into office the national debt ceiling was $6.0 trillion, a limit on federal government borrowing that hadn’t been raised since 1997. Now the national debt ceiling is $9.6 trillion. Congresswoman Judy Biggert, Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and the congressional GOP majority have voted five times for all five Bush Administration debt limit increases totaling $3.6 trillion more than when President Bush and the Republican majority started running America. A lot of that money went “nowhere” and was wasted pork barrel spending. All three Republican congressional candidates support earmarks. If you want to restore fiscal sanity vote Democrat. They’ll end the earmarks and restore responsible budgeting. Vote DuPage Democrats into congress - because it’s your money.
