Tonight Connie Sue Schmidt of the Sierra Club’s River Prairie Group announced their endorsement of Democrat Rob Bisceglie for 45th District State Representative at his Danada House fundraiser in Wheaton. Connie pointed particularly to Rob’s long-standing commitment to maintain open spaces and to bring state funding for the environment to DuPage, and she pledged Sierra Club support for Rob on the campaign trail. Following Connie’s speech Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn spoke to the DuPage faithful in the standing room only Atrium, where he talked about “a green way of thinking for the 21st century,” a modern way of thinking about resource consumption. Pat emphasized that the United States needs to take steps to become energy independent so that we no longer depend on oil from “potentates” in the Middle East that do not share our democratic form of government and that harbor terrorists threatening our national security.
Pat Quinn offered a local example of the new environmental thinking when he discussed a soybean-based polymer paint provided by Green Products of Romeoville that recently coated the roof of the Shedd Aquarium and will save the aquarium about $12,000 a year for 20 years in reduced air conditioning costs. Environmentally sound solutions can be smart business and good business.
Rob Bisceglie spoke after Lt Governor Quinn and focused his speech on the need for real representation of residents in DuPage. He spoke of the broken promise that funding for “Pate” Philip Park would be resolved now and the agreement stated in a press conference on July 11th - a press conference that never happened. Where, Rob asked, are DuPage government representatives and why aren’t they telling DuPage residents what is happening to the operating funding of the only state park in the area? Rob also spoke about the need to put “families first” and provide affordable high quality health care and quality public education, while not driving DuPage residents away with high property taxes. Rob received a number of standing ovations as he hammered home his point that it was time for a state representative to listen to district residents and represent their wishes in Springfield - and that he is ready for the job.
