Illinois Stephenson County Fair Dem Booth Double Size Of GOP

I was at the Stephenson County Fair this weekend (northwest corner of Illinois in the Freeport area) - a fair I’ve attended for a number of years. This year’s Stephenson County Democrats booth (two long tables - one of them covered with union material) seemed the fullest I’ve seen yet and was about double the length of the GOP table (which seemed a typically full GOP table for the fair). The local steelworkers union also had their own tent outside with the other ‘main’ exhibits (which I think I’ve seen before). This isn’t an area normally friendly to Democrats - but this might be the year. In a totally unscientific travel around Freeport (basically to and from the fair with some local shopping mixed in) I saw two Rod Blagojevich signs, one a real big one, plus a Dan Hynes sign - and I didn’t notice any Topinka or other GOP signs. While it’s early, and I’m not searching them out, I can’t say I’ve noticed signs for anyone in my area of DuPage - with the exception of a big Topinka-Birkett sign in Wheaton I happened upon.

If you’re looking to help Democrats, you should consider helping former Galena Mayor Richard D. Auman, who is challenging incumbent Republican Congressman Don Manzullo for the 16th Congressional seat that covers the Freeport area. You can donate to Auman’s campaign here. It’s an uphill fight for Richard - but then again, Manzullo was a major player in bringing Alan Keyes to Illinois - so here’s a great way to register your view on the subject. If Alan Keyes didn’t make you “ecstatic” like he did Don Manzullo - then you ought to be ecstatic about helping Richard Auman - do it now.
