It is an old rhetorical device that when you don’t like the outcome of something and can’t attack it on its merits, then you attack the process that produced the results. The Iraq Study Group with aid from the Washington Post’s David Broder has turned this around, to wit, when your results lack merit then trumpet the process: “Whatever the final impact of the Iraq Study Group report being issued today, for the 10 commission members this was an exhilarating experience, a demonstration of genuine bipartisanship that they hope will serve as an example to the broader political world.”
Yes, never has the prospect of complete failure been so “exhilarating” to the failing side. A worthy example to all!
Now, if those people in Iraq would just stop killing each other and our troops over there….
