Congratulations to State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias for getting praise from Rich Miller - which in itself is pretty high praise. Rich knows his beat (Illinois) and is pretty discerning. It’s great to hear an early review that State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has positioned himself to serve Illinois citizens well.

This would be the same Rich Miller who repeated the insinuation of “Mob Ties” because Lexi worked for a bank which made a fully secured real estate loan to a guy reputed to be involved in OC? Why should anyone give a rat’s ass what Miller says about this good man now?
Those of us who know Lexi don’t need Rich Miller to tell us he’s dedicated and a straight shooter.

Thanks for the comment! I didn’t say you have to agree with Rich (always or sometimes) - but I do think he knows his beat and I trust him on the facts.
Did Rich bring up the mob ties insinuations during the campaign? Yes and more than once. I will say, however, that while I like Alexi I do think that his campaign didn’t handle the charges well - they seemed blindsided by them. I also think that when the Speaker and the Attorney General bring them up it’s a bit hard to say it isn’t ‘newsworthy’ whatever the motivation. This, to my mind, is certainly a case of plenty of blame to go around - and while I’d have to look at Rich’s coverage again to decide if I agreed with it all - I can say at the time he wasn’t among the main people I was blaming.
