Carolyn Shannon For School Board District 303

I really meant to mention Carolyn Shannon a lot earlier - she’s a great woman who has also become a friend, and has been very active in a number of causes (both ones I’ve been involved in - and numerous others). Because of her intelligence, her interest in the community and especially her interest in education, I have no doubt Carolyn would be a great member of School Board District 303. If you live in District 303 please consider voting for her - here are some substantive reasons why from Carolyn:

- I am a “daughter of DuPage”; I grew up in Glen Ellyn. Like Glen Ellyn D41, D303 is struggling with overcrowding. Last year the school board voted to increase K-2 class sizes to 29, and middle and high-schools have nearly 30 trailers. D303 has had two failed referenda (the last lost by just over 100 votes). Today, D41 is going to referendum to enlarge my former junior high (Hadley).

- I am working for state education funding reform, and am a member of the A+ Illinois regional steering committee, and if elected would encourage the board to take a stand on education funding reform. D303 relies on property taxes for 82% of its funding, and fair housing is becoming an issue in this district. It’s important that we get adequate funding for our schools AND have a district where teachers (and retired teachers) can afford to reside.

- I was endorsed by the Kane County Chronicle. They said “Shannon would be a vocal advocate for the district increasing its use of technology in order to better inform residents of district happenings. Shannon already has given district issues much thought. She has diligently researched what districts across the nation are doing and how similar things could be done in St. Charles.”
