It seems that Geneva Democrat Joe Serra, most recently candidate for Illinois State Representative 50th District, plans to throw his hat into the ring again in the 14th Congressional. Last congressional election he came in a bit late, and left before the Democratic Primary ended, endorsing the eventual primary winner John Laesch. Joe in the past suffered from a lack of campaign infrastructure - we’ll see if he can build a stronger one this time around.
Businessman Joe Serra joins attorney Jotham Stein, also from Geneva, as a Democratic contender for the 14th Congressional. Jotham has launched his website and has assembled at least part of his campaign staff. It is hard to know how much Serra and Stein would take from each others base of support - but no doubt they’ll be rubbing elbows in Geneva and the other “tri-cities” St. Charles and Batavia (together their population is more than 75,000). Democratic State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia (83rd District) from nearby Aurora, the largest city and one that has produced the most Democratic votes in the congressional district, is also thought to be seriously considering the 14th District seat currently held by former House Speaker, Republican Dennis Hastert. Linda, with her experience and party support, would be considered the Democratic favorite to win in the current field should she throw her hat in the race.

I was hoping Mr. Serra would reconsider. I think he will make a very good candidate because he has a very good grasp of the issues and he’s insightfull. Good candidate.

There are a lot of people out there who will run for office and will say or do anything to get elected, but Joe Serra is an “honest to a fault”, & genuine person. I trust Joe implicitly, and I know he will always do what is right. Thank You!
