Obama Tops In Money And Donors; Hillary Second; Richardson Moving Up; Edwards Has More Small Donors, But Less Raised; Dodd Does Well

The New York Times reports that Barack Obama has raised “at least” $32.5 million this quarter, almost all of it primary money, and has over 258,000 campaign donors since he began the presidential race (Obama’s campaign website indicates $31 million raised this quarter for the primary out of the $32.5 million). This compares with “about” $27 million for second-highest fundraiser Hillary Clinton of which about $21 million is for the primary. The New York Times article also reports that Bill Richardson’s campaign hauled in $7 million, good enough it seems for fourth-highest after John Edwards, who brought in $9 million, a drop from $14 million last quarter, but more of it this time from small donors, “[i]n the first quarter, more than 80 percent of donations to the Edwards campaign were $100 and under; this quarter, more than 80 percent were $50 and under.” Christopher Dodd also reported a reasonably good quarter, collecting $3.25 million.
