Hastert Out According To Congressional Quarterly

ArchPundit has it. Just in Rick Pearson of the Chicago Tribune writes that the announcement will come Friday, as had previously been reported, “[but] it is not clear whether Hastert intends to finish his term, which runs through 2008. A decision on a potential resignation, which could trigger a special election, could come later, the sources said.”

I’ve heard two independent political watchers (one here) say that they heard that Congressman Dennis Hastert’s retirement announcement will come tomorrow (Wednesday) - but I can’t find a source to confirm it.

Regardless of the timing, get ready for the GOP candidates to come in including: Aurora State Senator Chris Lauzen, North Aurora Dairyman and investor Jim Oberweis, and Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns (KevinBurns2008.com forthcoming). Others may join in.

The GOP candidate that makes it through the primary will face some serious competition from the Democratic candidate that emerges out of the race between Geneva attorney Jotham Stein, Geneva businessman and scientist Bill Foster and veteran and 2008 Democratic nominee John Laesch.
