Missed this - Democrat John Laesch’s congressional campaign opened an office in Aurora last Wednesday. The location is notable - it’s a first. Last time they worked out of Yorkville, but this 14th Congressional District primary they see wisdom in having an Aurora office.
One angle on the office location is that there’s no Democratic candidate with a clear Aurora base - and Aurora has a lot of votes. A related angle is that John probably needs to do well in Aurora if he is to win - especially with the other two candidates coming from the also populous tri-city area (Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia). While Aurora State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia and Mayor Tom Weisner could exert influence and control blocks of votes for a preferred primary candidate - they also may sit out. However, history suggests that Kane County Chair Mark Guethle (who is also IUPAT (Painters) Union Political Director for District Council 30) might pick a horse in the race to support. Whether or not Guethle picks Laesch - John needs a presence in Aurora, the 14th District’s biggest city, and an office can only help in his race against Bill Foster and Jotham Stein in the Democratic Primary.
