Today Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. With the recent New York Times full-page ad asking Gore to run for president (by independent group Draft Gore) everyone is speculating on whether Al will run. Speculation has turned into dollars over at independent Democratic fundraising site ActBlue, where DraftGore.com is listed as #1 among the “busiest recipients” for the week.
So will Gore run? I can’t answer the question - but if you wanted a good way to think about it you might consult Ezra Klein’s American Prospect article on Bill Clinton and Al Gore’s legacies. It’s an insightful article, well worth your time, and it suggests the criteria Al Gore might use to make his decision. No doubt you can do a lot as president of the United States - no doubt you can do a lot with the ear of presidents too, perhaps more.
