There are obvious things I can think of including the possible differences in fundraising base between Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul and Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, and of course Paul’s libertarian views (and history) - but I find it striking that Hagel, who has turned against the Iraq War found little traction for a presidential run and has decided to retire, while Paul, who was always against the war, is making a pretty good (if likely unsuccessful) run for the GOP nomination.
Republican and Libertarian readers (and others) is there a story here I’m missing?
