6th District Congressional Candidate Jill Morgenthaler’s preliminary website is up at www.jillmorgenthaler.com. Outside of her announcement of candidacy, there isn’t a lot there yet - but I’d expect more to come soon.
Col. Jill Morgenthaler, a 30 year army veteran, businesswoman and recently Illinois’ Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety and Homeland Security Advisor, is in the Democratic Primary race with businessman Stan Jagla. The Democratic nominee will face one-term Republican Congressman Peter Roskam in the general election.

I find this part of her site very unsettling:
“Two years ago candidate Roskam promised to secure our borders. He didn’t get it done, and every day another two thousand people cross the border into our country illegally. Look, I’ve been Illinois’ Homeland Security director: I know the risks and I know what we’ve got to do. We need a comprehensive strategy to secure our borders with no amnesty for those who break our laws. And Washington should reimburse Illinois taxpayers for the cost of illegal aliens who get into our state. We’ve got to get it done.”
Immigrants are not the problem. Nasty trade policies like NAFTA are the real issue. When we pass trade agreements that are bad for our neighbors, what do we expect will happen? Should people starve instead of coming here illegally? I don;t think so.
I think Jill is too right-wing for me on this issue.
