From today’s New York Times, Marc Santora’s article, “McCain Takes On Clinton, With an Eye to Civility“:
“[John McCain said] ‘I guess issuing inflammatory statements can be effective. But I can’t campaign that way.’
….
As to his reluctance to attack Mrs. [Hillary] Clinton with the same relish as Mr. [Rudy] Giuliani, Mr. McCain said: ‘You can be tough, but you should never degrade or ridicule anyone who is seeking public office. But we see too much of it.’”
John’s right - we do see too much degrading and ridiculing of candidates in campaigns - but there’s no mention, at all, in this article of what an article by Katharine Seelye covered just three days ago in the New York Times: John McCain’s campaign using an incident where a McCain supporter called Hillary Clinton a derogatory name as a fundraising appeal.
Here’s the incident captured on film. Not exactly John McCain taking the high ground to turn the incident into an email campaign appeal (with the pretext of CNN giving him a bad rap).
Question: Does Marc Santora read the New York Times? Follow-up: Does Marc Santora work for the New York Times, John McCain’s campaign or both? We could use a little more “straight talk” from reporters since it’s in short supply at the McCain HQ.

I like this guy. He’s appears to be a good egg. Of course, there are good and bad in everything.
