Naperville Chamber Of Commerce Weighs In On Furstenau Suit Against Naperville

On November 20th outgoing Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Mike Skaar, representing the chamber, suggested that City Councilman Dick Furstenau’s lawsuit against the city represents “a conflict of interest between the city and our elected representatives, and [our concern is] if the process of governing can continue in an impartial and fair manner,” according to the Naperville Sun. Skaar suggested the city council get a legal opinion, perhaps from the state attorney general, to clarify the situation. As far as what I read that sounds reasonable, with Skaar saying (in the Naperville Sun’s wording), that he was “not singling out anyone, but rather calling into question the process of governance and how things may change when such litigation is filed.” The Naperville Potluck Blog (from the Naperville Sun) had a more confrontational take summarized in its headline “Furstenau vs. Naperville.”
