I’m far from a foreign policy wonk, but I’m very sympathetic to Matt Yglesias’ read on Clinton foreign policy vs. Obama foreign policy, with Clinton coming across more “hawkish” (pro-war) and Obama coming across as more “realist” and “internationalist” (among other things meaning more pro-diplomacy first). What the differences suggest is that Hillary Clinton, for whatever reason(s), hasn’t learned much from the Iraq War debacle.
Need more evidence of a lack of learning? Hillary Clinton is saying she’d like to resuscitate Colin Powell for a diplomatic post of some sort. Talk about the wrong message. Colin Powell failed the United States and led us to war - can I put it any more plainly?
On the plus side, it seems that Hillary is following in the illustrious footsteps of Presidential Candidate Tommy Thompson with Powell this cycle. I wonder if fading Presidential Candidate Fred Thompson is also considering using Colin Powell in his administration. Does Presidential Candidate Lobsterman have a place for Powell on his plate? Resuscitating Colin Powell would be a farce if his willful blindness in Iraq didn’t involve death, destruction and debt - instead it’s an abomination. Hillary, please leave him alone.
