John Laesch Gets AFL-CIO Endorsement In IL-14 - Who Knew?

The AFL-CIO endorsed Democrat John Laesch today in the 14th Congressional race. It’s a very big endorsement for Laesch, who has gotten some labor support, but largely lacked the big-name endorsements of fellow Democrat Bill Foster in the campaign. It will be interesting to see what this endorsement means to the Laesch campaign, which has trailed in fundraising compared to his opponents Jotham Stein and fundraising leader Bill Foster.*

One of my criticisms of the Laesch campaign is that it has failed to maximize its opportunities. The AFL-CIO endorsement is no exception. Today I heard early about Senator Dick Durbin’s endorsement of Bill Foster in the race and, specifically regarding the AFL-CIO, I also heard early from the Jill Morgenthaler campaign about the national union’s endorsement. I just checked John Laesch’s campaign website and Technorati - not a peep. Since this is the biggest endorsement of John’s campaign thus far I’d think that his website, his blog team and anyone and everyone he could find would know about it. Maybe they have something special planned - but for now, after the AFL-CIO endorsement page, you heard it here first.

Notes:

* Joe Serra, who entered the race extremely late, has not yet filed a quarterly finance report, but he is not expected to provide strong fundraising competition.
