The Problem With The GOP Presidential Field Is One Of Them Has To Win The Republican Primary

Seriously. It really boggles the mind.

I, like others believe that Mike Huckabee might pull it off and become the Republican nominee. But you read about Huckabee’s Wayne Dumond problem and Huckabee’s lack of attention to what’s happening with Iran, and it gets harder to imagine Huckabee pulling it off, even in the fantasy world of 2008 Republican Presidential aspirants. And then you remind yourself somebody’s got to win the GOP primary. Wow.

Read today’s Trib on Ron Paul: Ron Paul revolution: It has just begun to fight.

Costas Panagopoulos, director of the Center for Electoral Politics and Democracy at Fordham University, said the Paul phenomenon is the technological descendant of Howard Dean’s blogger base in 2004. That “revolution” also created excitement, but Dean quickly faded once the voting started.

Paul insists his fate will be different than Dean’s, and not just because online campaigning is more important today––YouTube, Facebook and MySpace are all sponsoring debates—but because he’s tapped into a deep public sentiment. How else could he raise so much money, he asks?

“The disgust with government and the spread of our message, plus the willingness of these individuals on the Internet to organize, is going to make a difference,” he said in interview.

He won’t get the GOP nod but him or someone like him is going to tap into that energy and run as a third party candidate.

By the way, FDR would be agast at what’s become of the Democrats. Henry Wallace’s ghost has taken over in revenge for FDR dumping him as VP.
