Edwards Last Minute Bid For Richardson Supporters, Difference On Iraq War

John Edwards now proposes removing practically all American forces from Iraq in ten months. This move would seem to increase John Edwards’ appeal to Bill Richardson voters supporting Richardson on one of the signature issues of his candidacy - getting the troops out of Iraq. Richardson is currently polling fourth in the Iowa caucuses behind the neck-in-neck top three candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Edwards. Whether through vote changing or becoming the “second-choice” candidate of Richardson supporters in Iowa, Edwards could make key gains in the caucus votes where supporters of candidates not reaching the “viability threshold” percentage are wooed to support other candidates. Edwards’ ‘out of Iraq’ position provides a contrast with both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, who both support reducing troop levels in Iraq, but do not yet have specific timetables for getting all American forces out of Iraq.
