From the Jill Morgenthaler Congressional Campaign:
“The Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald are the latest in a slew of Democratic Primary endorsements from prominent public officials and organizations including President Bill Clinton’s 1992 Campaign Manager and former DNC Chair David Wilhelm, Illinois Tollway Commissioner Brian McPartlin, Illinois AFL-CIO, Illinois Federation of Teachers, United Auto Workers, Illinois Operating Engineers, Illinois Association of Firefighters, Letter Carriers Branch 825, IBEW Locals 21 and 9, Chicago Federation of Labor, Communications Workers of America, and Illinois Asbestos Workers.”
Jill Morgenthaler faces Stan Jagla in the 6th Congressional Democratic Primary. Some speculate that Jagla’s recently announced $900 Billion (yes “B”) lawsuit against mega bank ABN Amro may take focus away from his congressional campaign. For some perspective, the suit asks for compensatory and punitive damages roughly equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product of India or South Korea.

Yet Morgenthaler expects to vote for her without posting a single ‘white paper’ or policy statment on her website, which has remained the same since her announcment of candidacy.
We are supposed to support her in the dark without knowing where she stands on issues like torture, Abortion, Iraq war, Defense department funding, Veterens department funding, education. etc. She say alot about this at forumns but now where can you see it written down so that we can hold her accountable. Just like Duckworth last time. And you know how that ended.

Thanks for the comment!
I have privately advocated a different approach to her campaign but, as you indicate, her campaign is what it is (and isn’t). I wish it were more. We’ll see what her fundraising numbers are like for the quarter, but I don’t see the strategy as viable.

Posted 18 Jan 2008 at 8:08 am ¶It seems someone wanted a veteran on the fast track to electability, despite the fact that her job in the service was mostly PR. And of course her veteran status suited the paramilitary direction that IEMA’s leaders are seeking for that agency. We need to hear more from her and less from her handlers and some honesty as well.
Yawn….yawn again. Jill Morgenthaler’s campaign is about the most underwhelming organization yet that has swooped in to try and move in on our hood. Outsiders without a clue. So she got endorsements over crazy Stan. Big surprise. She didn’t get my union’s endorsement. I don’t think we’d endorse anyone who is openly against a living wage. That’s pretty contrary to the labor movement.

It won’t work. Betting on an American Defeat will undue the party and cost them 2008.
Posted 19 Jan 2008 at 6:09 am ¶I want a Democratic candidate in my 6th Congressional District who can defeat the Bush Rubberstamp Republican incumbent Peter Roskam. Jill Morgenthaler is a highly qualified, intelligent and caring person who brings a wealth of experience in the military and the private sector. She wants to secure affordable health care for all, invest in alternative energy, and get us out of Iraq — maybe not as quickly as many of us would like, but certainly much sooner than Bush-Roskam’s 10 to 50 years.

In Sept. 06 he was disciplined by the State of Illinois Division of Financial and Professional Registration “due to criminal conviction.” See for yourself at https://www.idfpr.com/DPR/licenselookup/default.asp — look up his last name and first initial or his license No. 129040968. Or google his full name of Stanislaw Jagla.
Patricia,
Does Col Morganthaler still stand by this from her Iraq blog?
As she told me the horrors of living in Kuwait under the occupation, I realized that if we had not had the first war, Saddam may have been impossible to stop with the oil under his total control. The men who did terrible things to the Kuwaitis, especially the Kuwaiti women are very similar to the men we are fighting. As people get upset about Abu Ghraib, one thing that should never be forgotten: these are men who have murdered Americans and would continue to murder Americans if given the opportunity.
I think Democrats voting in the primary deserve to know.

On the other hand, betting that Bill Baar will engage in straw man arguments won’t cost anything and is a great way to pick up a few pennies, assuming you can get anyone to take the bet.
Hint: When you’re mugging someone (or someone’s country), and you decide to stop, stopping isn’t a defeat for you, it’s a victory for basic human decency. (And the word you want is “undo.”)
Posted 22 Jan 2008 at 3:14 pm ¶Will somebody PLEASE tell me why the Democratic Party decided to desert Christine Cegelis? This woman took on Henry Hyde at the peak of his power in Congress and in 2004 she came within 7% of beating him while being outspent $790,000 to $181,000 by Hyde. This against a man in the same office for 30 years, with a powerful committee chairmanship. Her reward for all of her work over the previous two election cycles? A stab in the back from Rahm Emanuel that ended up costing the Democratic Party the IL-06 district seat despite spending $4,516,000! Think about that. Christine Cegelis spends $181,000 (about $1,90 for each vote she received) and gets 44% of the district vote while Tanny Duckworth spends $4,516,000 (about $39.07 for each vote she received) to increase that percentage a whole 4.5% more than Cegelis was able to draw. Also remember that in the two years between when Cegelis ran and Duckworth ran, the Democratic base INCREASED by probably 2 or 3 percent, so in reality she spent about $4.4 million to gain maybe 2.5-3.5% more votes. Looking at it that way, those additional votes cost her between $579.71-$811.66 for each additional vote over what Christine Cegelis earned in 2004.
Meanwhile Roskam spent only $3,110,000 which is $306,000 less than Duckworth spent.
Now Rahm Emanuel is going to ensure the re-election of Roscum by running another machine selected candidate in 2008. Hopefully this one isn’t a carpetbagger like Duckworth was. I think it was wrong of Emanuel, Obama, Durbin, Daley, et al to stick their noses into District 06’s politics and let us choose for ourselves who we want to represent us.
Posted 25 Jan 2008 at 9:17 pm ¶You have seen what their meddling has done already. Just because Cegelis wasn’t a cog in the Democratic machine, they threw her under the bus and as a result we ended up with Roskam, a Bush robot, as our representative.
For this horrendous mistake I think Rahm Emanuel should be removed as the head of the DCCC. He proved himself incapable of this position by the loss of District 06 as well as several interim elections around the nation in the past year or so. Get someone to head the DCCC who has the ability to win elections for the Democratic Party instead of being concerned with Daley Machine members like Durbin, Obama and himself.
LOOK OUT PEOPLE! THERE MAY BE A HIDDEN LIBERAL PLANBOOK LIKE THE KENNEDY’S. WHY DON’T SHE HAVE A PLATFORM ???? WATCH OUT AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!
