Scott Harper Sets Fundraising Record In IL-13

Congratulations Scott!

“Harper shatters fundraising marks, reports record filing

Democrat’s strong showing adds IL-13 to DCCC target watch list

Naperville – Scott Harper, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 13th district, today filed his first-quarter fundraising report with the Federal Elections Commission, shattering every significant fundraising record ever held here by a Democratic candidate.

Harper reported raising $134,115 this quarter with $103,463.54 cash on hand. By March 31 of this year, Harper had raised $247,410, which is more than any Democratic candidate in this district has ever raised for an entire cycle.

‘I’m thrilled by our strong support from the people of this district who are clearly ready for a change in Washington,’ said Harper. ‘For too long, Judy Biggert has pretended to be a moderate when she’s really just a rubber stamp for George Bush and his radical agenda. But this time, she won’t be able to run from her record.’

Harper’s first quarter total exceeds the combined first quarter totals of the Democratic candidates in the 13th district over the last ten years. He is also the first candidate in 16 years to have raised more than $200,000 by the end of March.

‘The families of this district are concerned about their future and the future of their children,’ said Harper. ‘From ending the war in Iraq to growing jobs in our community to protecting our air and water, the people here want a leader who will fight for change in Washington.’

He continued, ‘I am so honored by the tremendous outpouring of support that people here have shown me as I seek to represent them in Congress.’”

    Dear readers-

In fairness, at least Congresswoman Biggert replys to letters and e-mails. I sent Harper an e-mail in regards to what is going on with the war on terror. He didn’t reply. ( Not that I expect him to.)

I will go with Judy Biggert for Congress due to experience and being a moderate, not a “rubber stamp!”

I sure hope that Harper proves to be more accessible to his constituents. His campaign has a long way to go, but I expect him to be riding the Obama wave to the U.S. House!

    Hi Robert and Audie,

    Thank you for your thoughts!

I’m pleasantly surprised by how well Scott Harper seems to be doing. I think Judy Biggert has much more of a fight on her hands than anyone would have expected - and no doubt some of that is attributable to the “Obama wave.”

    I’m not too impressed.

    (1) I just got a robocall from his people. I don’t like robocalls, but understand the difficulty in getting a newcomer’s name out there. This one was pretty poorly done though.

    (2) The website is pretty amateurish. Surely he can find someone good at writing to fix up the text.

    (3) Most of all, I strongly dislike that, at this moment, when the timing for democrats couldn’t possibly be better, he is running as an “independent voice” and playing down party affiliation. I wonder if this is why I don’t see an endorsement from Obama on his page?

I’m more interested in getting a loud and proud democrat in, even if they are moderate, than someone who just wants to run against corporatist Biggert. Please don’t tell me that one needs to be coy to win in a GOP-leaning district. We’ve seen that notion trashed many times across the country over the last 4 years. People want someone who makes a stand, not a calculation.

………LETS GIVE HIM A FAIR CHANCE. IT’S IS HARD TO RAISE MONEY AND STUFF. I WANT TO ADDRESS ANOTHER ISSUE, BUSH’S DAUGTHER AT THE BOOK STORE TONIGHT PANNING OFF HER BOOK? WHY ISN’T SHE AT THE FRONT AS THE REST OF THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN FIGHTING??

AT THE START OF WORLD WAR I FOR EXAMPLE , THEODORE ROOSEVELT MADE SURE THAT HIS SONS WERE NOT ONLY INVOLVED, BUT AT THE FRONT. FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT HAD HIS SON ( JAMES) IN UNIFORM ALSO.

THEIR OPINION ON THIS WAS THIS: “IF YOUR GOING TO BE HE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD COUNTRY, ONE HAD TO PUT WORDS INTO ACTION. A PERSON ( PRESIDENT ) WILL LOOK LESS CREDIBLE IF HE DON’T. THIS A FAMILY HABIT OF OURS!”

I AGREE WITH THIS. ONCE AGAIN. INSTEAD OF PUTTING ON TEARS AND THE SAME “FEEL FOR YOUR LOSS ” SPEECH, PUT WORDS INTO ACTION MR. BUSH!!

I’m impressed with Mr. Harper. As far as I know he is the first Congressional Candidate in IL 13 to get endorsed by Senator Durbin and Congressman Shakowsky. Senator Durbin’s office carefully vetts (sp?) candidates and their campain’s viability BEFORE endorsing.

I do not believe Ms Biggert is a moderate EXCEPT on the issues of choice, and sexual orientation. Otherwise she has voted for faith based funding, tax breaks for the wealthies, sides with the insurance companies and sincerely believes we belong in Iraq. She also believes that overall “No Child Left Behind was good legislation.

It is time for a change. If you want to chnge the legislation you need to change the legislator.

Please contribute positively to Mr Harper’s campaign, through funds, writing and/or volunteering for the campaign.

Judy’s experience and dedication to the issues that matter most to the 13th district are all that i need.

I will vote for Judy Biggert this November, regardless of how many people are swept from their morals and beliefs by a charismatic national figure.
