Playing catch-up with this one - 6th Congressional Democratic Candidate Jill Morgenthaler and 18th Congressional Democratic Candidate Colleen Callahan made the recently announced DCCC “Emerging” list of 20 races where “candidates have generated excitement in their districts for their campaigns for change.”
Jill Morgenthaler in the 6th District has expanded her campaign team, posted respectable fundraising numbers (including a sizable number of small donors), relaunched her website and gained endorsements from organizations like the Illinois AFL-CIO, the National Women’s Political Caucus, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Women’s Campaign Forum and VetPAC.
Jill Morgenthaler has also recently stepped up criticism of her opponent, Republican Congressman Peter Roskam, for siding with big oil companies at the expense of consumers. From Jill Morgenthaler for Congress:
“Last month, Peter Roskam said that gas prices were the number one concern of his constituents. Since then, he has repeatedly voted with Big Oil and against consumers. Of course, Big Oil interests have contributed more than $96,365 to his campaign.
Jill Morgenthaler said, ‘How can Peter Roskam be so selfish? He acknowledges that people in our district are suffering from staggeringly high gas prices and then he votes against us and for his Big Oil contributors. It is very clear Roskam went to Congress to protect his special interest friends, not the residents of the 6th District.’”

Jill is facing the same, if not worse, smear campaign that Duckworth faced. Roskam won’t debate the issues or defend his voting record. Here is what he has done.
